LCE and the “Irish day”

LCE is an option that we can choose in Year 9 (4ème), this option lasts 2 years. We have LCE 2 hours per week. The initials of LCE stands for European Language and Culture.

It is very good because we can practise more English and learn about new things. It is very interesting !

For example, we studied “Lamb to the Slaughter”, a short story from Roald Dahl. We were detectives and we had to find who killed Patrick... Then, we studied “Harry Potter”, from the novel to the movie, and we compared the similarities and differences between the film and the book. Finally, we studied the history of The Tudors, we learnt about Henry VIII and all his wives, and we studied the end of the Tudor dynasty with Elizabeth I.

Recently, we studied a chapter about English-speaking celebrations. First, we studied the story of Saint Patrick. To celebrate the “Irish Day”, we wanted to include the whole school. So, we created posters that we displayed at school. It was really fun !
We had to write three elements in the poster :

  • the date of the Irish day (17th March)
  • « wear green »
  • and « Happy Irish day »

The aim was that the whole school (teachers and students) wear green on the 17th March, to celebrate Ireland.

Unfortunately, some students didn’t wear green because they forgot or they didn’t have any green clothes… But we liked this experience, it was amazing, cool and it was our first special day in Galilée.

Hope to see you soon,
The LCE students and their teacher (Ms Bertrand)
